Happy Tuesday, y’all! The ice is gone, and the sun is back. Finally! If you are anything like me, the ice and snow were fun for about a day. Then, I began to miss the warm Texas sun. We have 70-degree weather in the forecast, though, and we cannot wait!

In this week’s Weatherford Wrangler:

  • FINS Grand prize is finally found

The Digest

💰 FINS Grand Prize is Found

The $10,000 prize hidden by FINS Bar and Grill has finally been found at the Super 8!! It has been a long 5 weeks since the prize was initially hidden. Finally, FINS revealed a few more clues this past Friday night, and the grand prize was immediately found. The past few weeks have been filled with controversy as people have questioned FINS social media tactics. Nonetheless, the prize is found, and the hunt is over. Don’t spend it all in one place!

🏈 UIL District 3 alignments have been released

Interestingly, Granbury has been classified as 6A and will join Weatherford and Aledo in District 3, along with the Arlington schools.

🎓 $100 Million Student Building Approved

The Weatherford College Board approved $10.7 million for Phase I of a new Student Union, funded without taxpayer dollars, with construction moving forward in phases. Trustees also celebrated record foundation donations, rising scholarships, and an 18% enrollment increase, while approving pay raises, new athletic programs, and steps to acquire nearby property.

🚧 Full closure of I-30

While this construction is not in Weatherford, it may impact residents traveling to and from the Metroplex this weekend, as TxDOT has scheduled a full closure of eastbound and westbound I-30 between I-820 West Loop and Chapel Creek Boulevard from 9:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, through 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8, for bridge demolition. Drivers should use I-20 and I-820 as alternate routes or frontage roads for local travel and plan ahead for extra travel time.

Business Spotlight

The Beef Piece

I’ll be honest. I’m having a pretty busy week with my full-time job as I catch up from the snowstorm. The article below that we are affectionately calling “The Beef Piece” was written a few weeks ago. I stashed it away and knew there would be a week when it would come in handy. Enjoy!

Cattle Prices Continue to Put on Weight

Photo from Wrangler Subscriber

For our folks in the cattle business, 2024 was great, and 2025 was even better. The trend of rising price per pound (live weight) has continued at sale barns and auctions across North Texas. See Chart. 300-500lb Steers continue to offer the highest yield, averaging around $2.00/lb in 2022 and rose to $4.20/lb in 2025. That is a 110% increase.

What’s driving the increase, you may ask? Herd numbers are not what they used to be, and consumers still crave a good steak. Here in Parker County, and surrounding counties (Palo Pinto, Jack, and Wise), surface and grazing rights are hard to come by. This is keeping herd numbers (supply) low.

Cattlemen, big and small, are constantly searching for another tract to run more cows. It’s hard to come by, and when they do, it goes fast, often before you “herd” it was available.

We spoke with Wrangler subscriber, Mr. Smith (yes, he’s a real person), on the matter.
“We run a small operation – 13 cows, one bull, all Black Angus. Prayer is our best
chance to find good grazing rights.”

This begins to make sense of the sticker shock at checkout for a 2-pack of ribeyes.
