I’ll be honest, I don’t watch much hockey. In fact, I don’t think I know a single person in Parker County who even plays hockey. But it’s hard not to get excited about the USA Men’s Hockey Team winning the gold medal against Canada in overtime yesterday 🦅🇺🇸
Here is what we are covering today:
Improvements to downtown Weatherford
Local election updates
Free meal for Weatherford
Events happening this week
Before you keep reading, I want to share two quick updates with you all.
First, we would love to hear from our readers. Could you take 3 minutes to click on this form and give us feedback? This newsletter is for you, so we want to write about things you actually care about.
Secondly, we want to keep this newsletter completely free. Which means we would like to partner with a couple of local businesses as sponsors. If you or someone you know owns a business and wants to get creative about marketing, please fill out this form. We would love to chat more.
Let’s get to it,
THE DIGEST
🚧 Improvements to Downtown Weatherford
I’m sure everyone here agrees that downtown Weatherford is the easiest place to navigate, right? Haha, I hope you can detect the sarcasm! I love downtown Weatherford so much, but I am excited to see that the City is seeking to make improvements for pedestrians.
My wife and I were walking to Ironworks the other day, and we both said we wish there were better sidewalks and crosswalks. So, we are in luck! The city announced that it is beginning construction on key downtown intersections. Construction began yesterday and will continue through March 6th. You can expect ADA-compliant curb ramps, new pedestrian signals, and crosswalk markings. We cannot wait to see the final result!
🏀 Aledo Boys’ Basketball First Playoff Game Tonight
Last week, the Aledo boys won a back-to-back district title. They finished with an undefeated district record as they beat Brewer High School 49-37. Tonight, they are seeking to win their first playoff game against Birdville High School. The game will be taking place at Argyle at 7:00 PM.
✅ Local Election Updates
As of last Friday, there have been over 2,500 people in Parker County who have made their way to the polls to go vote. Early voting will continue this week with polling sites open from 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM. You can view polling locations here.
The local ballot for the upcoming May election is looking a little lighter this year. Ben Clark (Place 1) and Matthew Poston (Place 3) both filed to run for City Council, and with the filing deadline now passed, both candidates are running unopposed. According to state law, these candidates are officially declared elected and will no longer appear on the May ballot. Both will be sworn in this May to begin their new terms.
🏛 On the Docket for City Council
Weatherford City Council meets today to weigh in on several major residential developments, including the 123-home Enclave at Chisolm Trail and the 89-lot Villas at Heritage Point. Alongside these housing updates, the Council will consider a $2 million contract for Phase 2 of Kirkpatrick Drive.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
🍝 Local Restaurant is Feeding Parker County (AGAIN!!)

Southern Crumb is hosting “Feeding Parker County”, a once-a-month community meal designed to make sure everyone has access to a great meal. This month, the meal is taking place on Saturday, February 28th, at 12:00 PM. The meal will take place at their food truck location at 1108 S Main St.
There’s no set price for this. Pay what you can. Donations are appreciated and help keep this meal going each month, but no one will ever be turned away.
You may remember, last month, we highlighted Southern Crumb the last time they fed Parker County. According to Elke Gilbert, owner of Southern Crumb, last month was a wonderful turnout. 53 plates were served, and over $200 were raised for this month’s meal. We encourage all who can go support Elke and Southern Crumb!
