I’ll be honest, I’m still adjusting to the time change. My 9 month old baby is still a bit confused. To be fair, I’m also a bit confused as to why we still have a time change. Nonetheless, we’re enjoying these longer days and beautiful weather, and I hope you are too!

Here is what’s in this week’s Weatherford Wrangler:

  • WISD announces potential new Superintendent

  • Primary vote recaps

  • Crawfish Boils and St Patty’s Day plans

THE DIGEST

🎓 Weatherford ISD Names Superintendent Finalist

The Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees has officially named Dr. Sean Scott as the lone finalist for superintendent following a long search. Currently the Deputy Superintendent for Mansfield ISD, Dr. Scott has over 25 years of experience in Texas public education as a teacher, coach, and administrator. Board President Mike Guest cited Dr. Scott’s deep understanding of student success and community collaboration as key factors in the selection.

Per state law, the district must now observe a 21-day waiting period before the Board can take formal action to officially hire him. However, keep in mind he is the only finalist for this position.

🗳️ Primary Results Are In

Incumbents dominated the Republican primary in Parker County last Tuesday, though many will face another hurdle this fall. County Judge Pat Deen secured 58% of the vote to hold off his challenger, while Commissioner Mike Hale (Pct. 4) and Jacob Holt (Pct. 2) both coasted to victory with over 75% support. In a tighter race, Lila Deakle narrowly retained her County Clerk seat with 51% of the tally.

Unlike previous years, where these wins signaled a final victory, most of these candidates will face Democratic opponents in the general election. Locally, Ken Paxton outpaced John Cornyn, but both are headed for a massive statewide runoff on May 26th after neither hit the 50% mark.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

🐾 Weatherford Wags Dog of the Month

A couple of weeks ago, we made a Facebook post asking, “What non-profits should we highlight?” Weatherford Wags was by far the most commented. Below is their story.

After eight years of walking shelter dogs, Deborah Haller noticed a heartbreaking trend: the "invisible" dogs were consistently overlooked. In response, she founded Weatherford Wags, a foster-based rescue that serves as the "last call" for Parker County’s most at-risk pups. Whether they are facing euthanasia due to space or need intensive heartworm treatment, Weatherford Wags team steps in to help.

Operating without a physical facility, Wags relies on local foster heroes and partners like BRK Kennels to provide a soft landing for dogs in transition. They specialize in turning "heartbreaking stories into hopeful endings" by saying yes to the medical and behavioral cases others pass by.

How to Help:

And look, I spent about 10 minutes looking at their website, and there are SO many amazing pups who need a home. Just look at sweet Darlin below. Do yourself a favor and go check out all the amazing dogs that Deborah and her team are caring for.
