Community Spotlight

🍝 Local restaurant is feeding Parker County

Southern Crumb is hosting “Feeding Parker County”, a once-a-month community meal designed to make sure everyone has access to a great meal. This month, the meal is taking place on Sunday, January 25th, at 12:00 PM. The meal will take place at their food truck location at 1108 S Main St.

There’s no set price for this. Pay what you can. Donations are appreciated and help keep this meal going each month, but no one will ever be turned away. This month’s meal is meat spaghetti, and, if you’re able, please bring your own dishware to help reduce waste.

Elke Gilbert, owner of Southern Crumb, asked us if we would consider including this in our newsletter. Our answer was an immediate “yes”. One of the main reasons we started this newsletter was to highlight and support any individuals, businesses, or non-profits that are seeking to serve Parker County. Elke, thank you for doing this, and may God bless you!

Nothing in this section is sponsored. These are just things we want you to know. I will always let you know when there is a sponsorship.

Civil News

Weatherford says “no” to Data Centers (for now)

There has been a stir over the past couple of weeks in Parker County regarding the subject of Data Centers. Our Facebook post alone garnered over 70 comments. Most of the comments were from citizens who were strongly opposed to the idea of building a Data Center.

Thankfully, the City of Weatherford heard our concerns and issued a response. Below is a summary:

  • Citizens’ concerns about noise, water, and electricity have been heard.

  • A public hearing regarding data centers was recently posted. The City has decided not to move forward with this proposed amendment.

  • The City will continue to observe the development of Data Centers and evaluate what is best for Weatherford.

This is a great reminder that every citizen has a voice. We encourage everyone to attend or watch the City Council meetings and remain involved.

Important note: The city only has jurisdiction over the Weatherford City limits. A data center could still be built outside of Weatherford City limits in unincorporated territory. However, there are no current plans that we know of for a data center in Parker County.

City Council Meeting: We watched so you don’t have to

Last week, the City Council gathered. It was a short meeting (22 minutes long), yet there were some noteworthy discussions. One agenda item that drew our attention was the revised budget for the building on 221 North Main (formerly Edgewise Brewery).

The city approved an additional $39,000 for remodeling, bringing the total remodel budget up to $900k. As someone who grew up in a Weatherford house that was built in the 1800s, I get it. Remodels are expensive and always cost more than you think. With that said, the City is hoping that this building will return over $500k in profits to taxpayers.
